Semester Abroad

International Partnerships

Students spend the third semester of the four-semester program at one of the partner institutions and get to know first-hand new cultures and cultures of knowledge that are connected to European models of culture and knowledge in various ways.

Studying outside the European cultural sphere gives students the opportunity to encounter new perspectives: how is Europe seen from the outside? Which other, alternative epistemologies, theories, and concepts exist next to the globally-recognized, Eurocentric models?

The international aspect of the education in the master program is fulfilled by means of the obligatory semester of study at one of the partner universities outside of Europe. Students are encouraged to travel to their chosen partner university with an idea for the master thesis and to use their time abroad to refine and flesh out this plan.
