• Welcome to the transfer project “DNR”

How can death notifications be delivered responsibly? What can police officers do to protect and support relatives as they receive news of a loved one’s death? How can they cope with their own emotional stress? As part of the research and transfer project DNR and in close collaboration with the police, we are developing a blended learning course that will prepare police officers for contacting the relatives of someone who has died a sudden and unnatural death.

  • DNR - Delivering death notifications responsibly

Crosses like the one in the picture on the left can be found along the roads both in Germany and abroad. Often, these road signs are put up by the victim’s family in remembrance of the tragic death of a beloved family member. The importance of memorial sites and the materiality of death for the grieving process will be at the heart of our blended learning course. When someone dies a sudden and unnatural death, it is the duty of the police to inform the victim's family, especially after accidents, suicides and other tragedies.
